Penile Reconstruction to Restore Penile Size and Urinary Function by dr. Hendy Sp.U (K) at Mandaya Puri

Tindakan Rekonstruksi Penis untuk Mengembalikan Ukuran Penis dan Fungsi Berkemih oleh dr. Hendy Sp.U (K) di RS Mandaya Puri

Buried penis is a relatively uncommon condition, but it can have a significant impact on the lives of men who experience it. This condition occurs when the penis is covered or hidden by surrounding tissue, which can interfere with urinary and sexual function. In addition to affecting daily activities, the condition can also reduce quality of life.

One treatment option that may be considered in certain cases is penile reconstruction. This procedure aims to help restore the function and appearance of the penis according to the patient’s condition.

At Mandaya Royal Puri Hospital, dr. Hendy Mirza, Sp.U (K), a urologist, performed penile reconstruction on a patient with a condition that caused the penis to appear smaller and was accompanied by urinary difficulties. After undergoing surgery, the patient was evaluated by the medical team and was allowed to go home two days after the procedure.

Penile Reconstruction Performed to Release Tissue Trapping the Penis

In this patient, dr. Hendy treated a condition known as trapped penis, in which scar tissue at the end of the skin covering the head of the penis (prepuce) forms a contracture, causing the penile shaft to become pulled and trapped. The patient had a history of difficulty urinating associated with recurrent infections.

To address the condition, penile reconstruction was performed by releasing damaged skin and dartos tissue. After the problematic tissue was released, the doctor reconstructed the area to help restore better penile function.

The procedure was performed in the operating room and took approximately 30 minutes. The procedure was even shorter than initially expected. After surgery, the patient was planned to remain hospitalized for approximately two days and could be discharged on the second day if no problems were identified during monitoring.

This reconstructive procedure was part of the treatment for a condition that affected not only the appearance or size of the penis but also the patient’s urinary function.

dr. Hendy, a Urologist Experienced in Treating Complex Cases, from Buried Penis to Undescended Testicles

The field of urology covers various conditions that can affect the urinary tract and male reproductive organs, ranging from congenital abnormalities to problems that develop with age. Some of these conditions require specialized treatment because they can affect urinary function, reproductive organ development, and quality of life.

As a urologist and pediatric urology consultant, dr. Hendy Mirza, Sp.U (K) treats a variety of urological conditions, including several cases that require surgical intervention. Some of the conditions he treats include:

  • Buried penis (buried penis): A condition in which a normally sized penis appears hidden or covered by the surrounding skin and tissue. The condition may be present from birth or develop later due to certain conditions.
  • Hypospadias (hypospadias): A congenital condition in which the urethra and foreskin do not develop normally. The urethra is the tube that carries urine and semen out of the body through the penis. In hypospadias, the urethral opening is not located in its normal position at the tip of the penis.
  • Hydrocele (hydrocele): A condition in which fluid accumulates in the sac surrounding the testicle, causing the scrotum to swell. Hydrocele is more commonly found in infants and, in some cases, may resolve on its own. If it does not improve or causes problems, surgery may be considered.
  • Undescended testicle (undescended testicle/cryptorchidism): A condition in which one or both testicles do not descend into the scrotum before birth. Normally, the testicles develop inside the abdomen and then descend into the scrotum, the pouch of skin located below the penis. This condition more commonly affects only one testicle, but it can affect both.
