With Four Internationally Certified Robotic Orthopedic Surgeons, Mandaya Royal Puri Hospital Appointed as Indonesia’s CORI Robotic Knee Reference Center

Mandaya Royal Puri Hospital has been officially appointed by global medical device company Smith+Nephew as the first and only CORI Robotic Knee Reference Center in Indonesia.

The CORI system is an advanced robotic technology that assists surgeons in performing knee joint replacement surgeries with exceptional accuracy. This technology enables real-time mapping to precisely adjust the implant according to the patient’s knee structure.

To commemorate the appointment, Mandaya Royal Puri Hospital held an inauguration ceremony on Saturday (August 9), combined with a health talk and talk show titled “Differences Between Conventional Knee Replacement Surgery and Robotic Navigation Surgery.”

The event was attended by the hospital’s four internationally certified Hip & Knee orthopedic subspecialists: Dr. Paulus Ronald Hibono, Sp.OT(K) Hip & Knee; Dr. William Chandra, Sp.OT(K) Hip & Knee; Dr. Rahendra Pratama, Sp.OT(K) Hip & Knee; and Dr. Ardi Setiawan, Sp.OT(K) Hip & Knee.

Also present was a special guest speaker from Thailand, Associate Professor Pruk Chaiyakit, MD, a highly experienced orthopedic surgeon with extensive expertise in hip and knee surgery.

A Hospital with an Internationally Certified Robotic Orthopedic Team

Mandaya Royal Puri Hospital’s appointment as a CORI Robotic Knee Reference Center is no coincidence. In addition to having world-class orthopedic surgical and rehabilitation facilities, the hospital is backed by a team of Hip & Knee orthopedic subspecialists who are internationally certified in robotic surgery procedures.

One of Mandaya’s Hip & Knee consultant orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Paulus, is the only representative from Indonesia to attend the CORI Robotic Summit in Germany and has also completed a CORI robotic workshop in Thailand. Likewise, Dr. William has undergone advanced knee surgery training at the Lyon School of Knee Surgery in France.

According to Erwin Suyanto, Public Relations of Mandaya Hospital Group, the hospital’s appointment as a CORI Robotic Knee Reference Center is strong evidence of Mandaya Royal Puri’s dedication to delivering innovative orthopedic care and an internationally recognized orthopedic team.
“Mandaya has successfully performed 100 robotic knee surgeries in just 10 months and was the first to perform partial knee replacement (UKA) with robotic assistance,” Erwin said.

“Some patients have not only regained the ability to walk but have also returned to high-impact sports such as tennis,” he added.

To date, Mandaya Royal Puri Hospital remains the only hospital in Indonesia with the highest number of CORI robotic knee surgeries performed nationwide.

The Powerful Combination of CORI Robotics and OXINIUM Implants for Optimal Knee Surgery Outcomes

The CORI Robotic Surgical System is an advanced robotic navigation system for both partial (Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty/UKA) and total (Total Knee Replacement/TKR) knee joint replacement procedures. This robotic technology enables surgeons to map a patient’s knee anatomy in real time without the need for a preoperative CT scan.

Equipped with a smart surgical burr, the CORI system allows for greater precision in bone cutting and implant placement — one of the reasons it is now used in more than 120 countries worldwide. CORI is also the only knee surgery robot approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for revision knee surgery, a procedure to replace part or all of an existing knee implant with a new one.

The CORI system is paired with Smith+Nephew’s OXINIUM knee implant, renowned for its exceptional wear resistance and structural strength — proven to be nine times stronger after 45 million steps, equivalent to 30 years of use. Additionally, OXINIUM maintains a surface 160 times smoother after 10 million impact cycles compared to conventional knee implants, reducing joint wear and improving postoperative comfort.

With high biocompatibility, OXINIUM minimizes the risk of allergic reactions and is specially designed to fit the anatomy of Asian patients.

The synergy of CORI’s robotic precision and OXINIUM’s superior implant material delivers more accurate surgeries, shorter recovery times, and a significantly improved quality of life for patients.
