RS Mandaya Royal Puri Lakukan Tindakan EVAR oleh dr. Suci Indriani

RS Mandaya Royal Puri has a cardiovascular specialist and consultant in interventional and vascular cardiology who can perform endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) to treat abdominal aortic aneurysms. She is dr. Suci Indriani, Sp.JP (K), FIHA.

What is EVAR?

EVAR is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat abdominal aortic aneurysms. The aorta is the body’s largest artery, carrying blood from the heart to the rest of the body.

In cases of abdominal aortic aneurysm, EVAR is performed through a small incision (puncture) using advanced instruments to repair the bulging section of the blood vessel (aneurysm) in that area.

The Goal of EVAR

The main purpose of EVAR is to prevent rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm, a life-threatening condition.

When blood flow puts pressure on a weak spot in the aortic wall, the artery can bulge outward and form an aneurysm. This carries the risk of rupture, which disrupts blood supply to vital organs and can lead to fatal complications within minutes.

EVAR reduces this risk by relining the aneurysm with a stent graft—a special fabric tube reinforced with a metal mesh frame. The stent graft diverts blood flow away from the aneurysm, preventing direct pressure on the weakened area.

When is EVAR Recommended?

Not all aneurysms require immediate treatment. Doctors may recommend EVAR if patients:

  • Have a large aneurysm or a small aneurysm that is growing rapidly
  • Are not eligible for open surgery with a large incision
  • Have healthy blood vessels near the aneurysm that can support the procedure

Advantages of EVAR in Treating Aortic Aneurysms

As a minimally invasive procedure, EVAR offers several benefits compared to open surgery:

  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Minimal bleeding
  • Greater comfort during recovery
  • Faster return to daily activities
  • Reduced risk of heart attack or death during the procedure compared to open surgery
  • Shorter procedure time compared to open surgery
