RS Mandaya Royal Puri officially launched its Integrated Sinus & Snoring Center on Saturday (Oct 4). This milestone marks Mandaya’s commitment to providing modern, minimally invasive ENT treatments for patients with a wide range of conditions. Among its leading innovations is plasma coblation, a cutting-edge method that enables faster, less painful tonsil surgery — with patients able to go home the same day.
This launch is the result of a collaboration with Centro Businco, a renowned ENT center from Italy that has treated over 9,000 patients, including global figures such as football legend Francesco Totti and international tenor Andrea Bocelli.
The event was attended by RS Mandaya Royal Puri ENT specialists, including dr. Abdillah Hasbi Assadyk, Sp.THT-BKL, MPH, dr. Dewi Lizanty, M.Kes, Sp.THT-BKL, and Prof. dr. Abdul Kadir, Ph.D, Sp.THT-KL(K), MARS, along with neurologist dr. Dinda Larastika Riyanto, Sp.N, RPSGT. The highlight of the event was the presence of Prof. Lino Di Rienzo Businco, founder and leader of Centro Businco, as keynote speaker.
Plasma Coblation: Modern Tonsil Surgery with Minimal Pain and Same-Day Discharge
One of the flagship technologies at the Integrated Sinus & Snoring Center is plasma coblation, which uses low-temperature plasma energy to selectively shrink tonsil tissue without damaging surrounding healthy tissue.
Unlike traditional tonsillectomy, which removes the tonsils completely, plasma coblation allows doctors to perform a tonsillotomy — removing only the diseased part of the tonsils while preserving their natural immune function.
The benefits are significant compared to conventional surgery:
- Reduced pain, allowing patients to eat and drink just 3 hours post-procedure
- Minimal risk of bleeding
- Faster recovery and same-day discharge in most cases
This makes plasma coblation an ideal solution for chronic tonsillitis patients who fear pain or long recovery times. It is also effective for adenoidectomy, the removal of swollen adenoids caused by infection or allergy.
Patient Story: Eating Comfortably Just Hours After Plasma Coblation
Dr. Abdillah has already treated patients with chronic tonsillitis using plasma coblation. Before undergoing the procedure, one patient suffered recurring tonsillitis 2–3 times per month, accompanied by flu, sore throat, headaches, tonsil stones, bad breath, and snoring. The condition persisted for over a year, severely affecting the patient’s quality of life.
The core procedure took only about 5 minutes. Once anesthesia wore off, the patient could already speak, eat, and drink with minimal discomfort.
Within less than a week, the patient experienced remarkable improvement: surgical wounds healed quickly, inflammation subsided, and they were able to resume normal activities comfortably.
According to Erwin Suyanto, Public Relation Manager of Mandaya Hospital Group, this represents a major leap forward in ENT treatment in Indonesia.
“Just three hours after surgery, patients can already eat — unlike with conventional tonsillectomy. This is a world-class breakthrough available at Mandaya, made possible through our collaboration with Centro Businco. Just like in Italy, where patients such as Andrea Bocelli and Francesco Totti were treated, this technology can now benefit many Indonesians,” said Erwin.
Beyond Tonsils: Balloon Sinuplasty and QMR
In addition to plasma coblation, the center also offers balloon sinuplasty for treating chronic sinusitis without major surgery. This innovative method inserts a small balloon through the nose to open blocked sinus passages.
Because it is performed without external incisions, the tissue remains intact, pain and bleeding are minimized, and recovery is faster. The procedure itself takes only 15–20 minutes and has proven highly effective in improving patients’ breathing quality.
Another advanced treatment is Quantum Molecular Resonance (QMR) for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Using high-frequency electromagnetic waves, QMR reduces excess tissue that blocks the airway, working with precision while minimizing pain and trauma.
Erwin emphasized: “The introduction of these technologies is proof of Mandaya’s commitment. Chronic sinusitis, tonsillitis, and sleep apnea can now be treated without major surgery — with safer, more comfortable, and minimally invasive methods.”
From Italy to Indonesia: World-Class ENT Care at Mandaya
One of the specialists at the Integrated Sinus & Snoring Center, dr. Abdillah Hasbi Assadyk, pursued advanced training in Italy with the Centro Businco team under the direct mentorship of Prof. Lino Di Rienzo Businco. During his time there, he gained not only theoretical knowledge but also hands-on experience in performing minimally invasive ENT procedures such as plasma coblation, QMR, and balloon sinuplasty.
Dr. Abdillah even assisted Prof. Lino in treating real patients, sharpening his expertise in modern ENT care. With this international competency, patients at RS Mandaya Royal Puri can now receive world-class treatments without traveling abroad.
Today, Indonesian patients have access to the latest ENT solutions for sinusitis, tonsillitis, and sleep apnea — all available locally with global medical standards.
Erwin concluded:
“Many patients postpone treatment because they fear major surgery. With minimally invasive technologies like plasma coblation at Mandaya, those fears can be put to rest. The procedures are fast — sometimes just 15 minutes — with minimal bleeding, no need for nasal packing, and same-day recovery.”
With the launch of this center, RS Mandaya Royal Puri strengthens its position as a national referral hospital for ENT and sleep disorder treatments, combining advanced medical technology, internationally trained doctors, and modern facilities. This provides new hope for Indonesian patients seeking world-class healthcare without leaving the country.
