This was the case for a 77-year-old patient who experienced a recurrence of prostate problems despite having undergone surgery several years earlier.

Recurrence of symptoms after prostate surgery
A few years after his previous prostate surgery, the patient began to experience urinary flow obstruction again and had to wake up 2–3 times at night to urinate. This condition caused fatigue and weight loss.
On the recommendation of his relative, a doctor in Tangerang, the patient was advised to undergo the Rezum procedure, a minimally invasive technology considered safe for the elderly.
He then consulted with dr. Maruto Harjanggi, BSc(Hons), Sp.U, FICS, a urology specialist at Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri. After medical discussion and careful consideration, the patient decided to proceed with the procedure.
Rezum procedure and remarkable results
The Rezum procedure was performed on April 16, 2025. Three months later, on July 15, 2025, the patient returned for a follow-up check. The results were significant: the prostate size, previously 140 cc, had successfully shrunk to 67 cc.
According to dr. Maruto, this prostate size was actually well above the ideal range for Rezum (40–80 cc). However, with careful evaluation and proper planning, the procedure went smoothly and successfully.
In addition to the prostate reduction, the patient’s urinary flow improved dramatically. His maximum flow rate reached 290 ml/second, and he was able to empty almost 200 cc of urine in just 14 seconds — an exceptional outcome for a 77-year-old man.
Post-procedure, the patient only required a catheter for one week due to minor bleeding, with no pain during its use or removal. This was thanks to Rezum’s minimally invasive approach.
