Mandaya and Italian Research Team Advance Colorectal Cancer Treatment

Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing oncology services in Indonesia. On Wednesday (October 2), the hospital hosted a scientific event featuring one of the world’s leading colorectal cancer experts, Prof. Giampaolo Tortora from Italy.

The event was attended by Mandaya’s Hemato-Oncology specialists, including Prof. Dr. Aru W. Sudoyo, Sp.PD-KHOM, FINASIM, FACP; Dr. dr. Andree Kurniawan, Sp.PD-KHOM, FINASIM; Dr. Alvin Tagor Harahap, Sp.PD-KHOM; Dr. Toman T.J Lumban Toruan, Sp.PD-KHOM; and Dr. Nia Novianti Siregar, Sp.PD, Subsp.H Onk. M (K).

Prof. Giampaolo Tortora is a renowned Italian medical oncologist and currently serves as the Director of the Department of Oncology at Gemelli Hospital, Rome. Internationally recognized as a leader in cancer research and therapy—particularly in colorectal cancer—his work focuses on personalized medicine, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy for gastrointestinal cancers.

During a health discussion titled “MDT and Integration with Genome Profiling in Decision-Making for Upper GI Cancer” held at Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri, Prof. Tortora shared the latest insights and clinical practices in colorectal cancer treatment. He highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, advanced diagnostic technologies, and individualized treatment approaches tailored to each patient.

Gemelli Hospital (Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS) is one of Italy’s largest and most prestigious academic hospitals. Located in Rome and affiliated with the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Gemelli plays a major role in medical education, research, and advanced healthcare services.

This event is part of a week-long international collaboration between Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri, Gemelli Hospital, and the Ultrastructural Biophysics Research Institute (UBRI), running from September 30 to October 5, 2025. Throughout this scientific week, Mandaya and the Italian research team are holding a series of educational programs, including hands-on workshops, lectures, and scientific meetings, aimed at strengthening clinical and research capacity in fields ranging from oncology to ENT.
