Sinusitis is an inflammation of the sinus cavities that can cause various symptoms, ranging from nasal congestion to headaches that interfere with daily activities. In some cases, sinusitis can also trigger sleep disturbances and reduce quality of life if not treated properly. Today, modern methods such as balloon sinuplasty are available to treat sinusitis in a minimally invasive way with optimal results.
A sinusitis patient named Yovan from Jakarta came to Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri to undergo balloon sinuplasty performed by ENT specialist dr. Abdillah Hasbi Assadyk, Sp.THT-KL, who is experienced in this procedure. He has also completed intensive training at a renowned ENT center in Italy.
“After the surgery, the results were good, both for my throat and nose. I don’t have any complaints. I even asked my wife, ‘Am I still snoring?’ It’s gone, I don’t feel it anymore. Previously, my snoring was quite disturbing, and I even felt like I stopped breathing at times until I woke up,” said the patient.

Initial Symptoms to Acute Sinusitis Diagnosis
Sinusitis is often considered a mild condition, similar to a common cold. This was also experienced by the 34-year-old patient, who initially only had a runny nose for one to two weeks. However, the symptoms did not improve and instead worsened into severe headaches and facial pain, especially in the jaw and cheek areas.
“At first, I had a cold for about 1–2 weeks and only took regular medication. I thought it would get better, but it didn’t. When it was checked through endoscopy, looking at my throat and nose, it turned out to be acute sinusitis,” the patient explained.
After undergoing endoscopic examination, the patient was diagnosed with acute sinusitis. He also experienced additional symptoms such as nasal blockage, difficulty sleeping, and severe snoring, even accompanied by episodes of sleep apnea. These conditions significantly affected his quality of life and required further medical treatment.
Balloon Sinuplasty Procedure and Additional Treatments
“So the procedures I underwent with dr. Abdillah included balloon sinuplasty, turbinate reduction on both the left and right sides of my nose, and uvuloplasty in the throat area. All three procedures were done in a single surgery. They weren’t done separately, everything was completed at once, so I didn’t have to go back and forth,” the patient explained.
After the inflammation was managed with initial treatment, the doctor recommended balloon sinuplasty. This procedure was performed along with turbinate reduction on both sides of the nose and uvuloplasty in the throat in a single session.
Performing multiple procedures at once provided added convenience for the patient, as it eliminated the need for separate treatments. The entire process was carefully planned, allowing the patient to undergo therapy more efficiently and comfortably without repeated hospital visits.
Treatment Results and Patient Recovery
Following the procedure, the patient experienced significant improvement. Symptoms such as nasal congestion decreased, breathing became easier, and sleep disturbances were resolved. Even the previously disruptive snoring was no longer present.
During the recovery period, the patient continued follow-up care as recommended by the doctor, including the use of nasal spray medications for a certain period. In addition to the positive medical outcomes, the administrative process and overall hospital experience were smooth and well-organized.
This experience highlights that proper sinusitis treatment, supported by experienced doctors and adequate medical facilities, can deliver optimal results and significantly improve a patient’s quality of life.
