Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common types of arrhythmia or irregular heart rhythm. This condition causes the heart to beat irregularly—often too fast. Symptoms may include heart palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, chest discomfort, dizziness, or near-fainting episodes. Without proper treatment, atrial fibrillation can significantly increase the risk of stroke, heart failure, and other serious complications. Therefore, early detection and timely therapy are essential to prevent disease progression and maintain the patient’s quality of life.
To help patients receive more accurate, safe, and modern arrhythmia care, Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri presents the Mandaya Atrial Fibrillation (AF) Heart Center. This center is equipped with cutting-edge technologies such as 3D cardiac ablation and Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA)—a next-generation ablation method known for its higher precision and lower risk. All procedures are performed directly by cardiac electrophysiology specialist, Dr. Sebastian Andy Manurung, Sp.JP, Subsp. Ar(K), FIHA, who has extensive expertise in treating heart rhythm disorders. With advanced technology and experienced specialists, Mandaya is committed to providing world-class arrhythmia care for every patient.

Mandaya Atrial Fibrillation (AF) Heart Center, Equipped with 3D Ablation and PFA Technology
1. 3D Cardiac Ablation
Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri provides 3D cardiac ablation technology. Using this method, abnormal electrical pathways in the heart are corrected point by point, as it still uses a single-point catheter. This procedure typically takes around 3–4 hours.
3D ablation can use two types of energy: heat (radiofrequency ablation/RFA) or cold (cryoablation). The doctor will choose the most suitable energy type based on the patient’s condition and deliver it through a catheter inserted from the groin into the heart chambers.
Once the catheter reaches the target area, it delivers heat or cold to create small controlled lesions. These scar tissues then block abnormal electrical signals that trigger arrhythmia.
“With 3D cardiac ablation, we as doctors and operators can map the source of the abnormal rhythm with much higher precision,” said Dr. Sebastian.
“The ablation catheter provides one of the best solutions for arrhythmia treatment because outcomes have been excellent. Around 93–95% of patients recover completely without recurrence,” he added.
2. PFA Cardiac Ablation
Unlike 2D and 3D ablation that rely on heat or cold, Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri also provides the latest Pulse Field Ablation (PFA) technology. This method offers many advantages in treating atrial fibrillation (AFib).
The initial steps of PFA are similar to other ablation procedures: a catheter is inserted through the groin and guided into the heart. However, the key difference lies in the type of catheter used. PFA utilizes a multipoint or multipolar catheter, enabling energy delivery to multiple points simultaneously. This is what makes the procedure significantly shorter than 2D or 3D ablation.
Instead of heat or cold, PFA delivers high-frequency electrical pulses.
“With PFA, we use a multipolar catheter, which allows us to deliver energy to multiple points at once,” explained Dr. Sebastian.
“Because it delivers ablative energy to more areas simultaneously, AFib ablation becomes much faster. A 3D RFA procedure takes about 3–4 hours, while PFA can be completed in under 2 hours,” he emphasized.
Beyond its efficiency, PFA also shows higher long-term success rates for AFib compared to other cardiac ablation methods.
Electrophysiology Specialist at Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri: Dr. Sebastian

In 2024, the number of cardiac electrophysiology specialists in Indonesia remains very limited. As a result, the ratio between arrhythmia patients and qualified arrhythmia specialists is still far from ideal. However, you don’t need to worry about finding an experienced arrhythmia specialist—Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri provides direct access to consultations with Dr. Sebastian.
As one of the few electrophysiology specialists in Indonesia, Dr. Sebastian has an exceptional professional background. Beyond performing advanced ablation procedures, he is also capable of managing various other cardiac interventions and conditions.
His educational and professional credentials reflect strong academic training and specialization. He completed his medical education at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Padjadjaran, continued his Cardiology and Vascular Medicine specialization at FKUI and the National Cardiovascular Center Harapan Kita, and further pursued subspecialty training as an Electrophysiology Consultant at the same national cardiac center through the Indonesian College of Cardiology.
