QMR, Bleeding-Free ENT Procedure Technology

QMR, Teknologi Prosedur THT Tanpa Pendarahan

Quantum Molecular Resonance (QMR) is an advanced ENT procedure technology designed to address a wide range of conditions, including tinnitus (ringing in the ears), nasal obstruction and breathing problems, and tonsillitis.

QMR offers multiple benefits, such as faster procedures, bleeding-free treatment, and minimally invasive techniques. At Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri, QMR technology is available to treat various ENT conditions, including Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)—a sleep disorder often characterized by loud snoring due to blocked airways.

1. QMR for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)

OSA occurs when the upper airway becomes blocked due to excess tissue in the throat, such as the soft palate, tonsils, or tissues around the uvula. QMR helps by:

  • Reducing excess tissue that narrows the airway
  • Remodeling the soft palate to prevent collapse during sleep
  • Shrinking tonsils or lymphoid tissue obstructing airflow
  • Improving airflow so patients can breathe more comfortably at night

QMR is an effective alternative for patients who cannot tolerate or feel uncomfortable using CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure).

Advantages of QMR for OSA:

  • Minimal pain: low energy with minimal tissue trauma
  • Very little bleeding: instant hemostasis for safer procedures
  • Faster recovery: quicker return to daily activities compared to traditional surgery
  • High precision: targets only obstructive tissue without harming healthy areas
  • Minimal scarring: reduces risk of long-term complications
  • Effective alternative for patients unsuitable for CPAP therapy

2. QMR for Tinnitus

QMR is also effective for somatic tinnitus (ringing in the ears caused by structural dysfunction outside the inner ear), often linked to:

  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction
  • Tension in temporalis and masseter muscles
  • Poor head/neck posture
  • Headaches or facial pain radiating to the ears

QMR works by delivering non-thermal resonance frequencies (4–16 MHz) through a small probe near the TMJ or facial muscles.

Key benefits:

  • No heat or pain, ensuring patient comfort during treatment
  • Can be combined with laser therapy for tinnitus
  • Specifically effective for tinnitus caused by muscle tension

3. QMR for Inferior Turbinate Hypertrophy

Inferior turbinate hypertrophy refers to the enlargement of nasal turbinates that block airflow, leading to chronic nasal congestion, difficulty breathing, and worsened allergy symptoms.

Using low-frequency resonance waves (4–16 MHz), QMR reduces turbinate tissue size without heat or incisions.

Advantages include:

  • Minimal to no bleeding
  • Very fast recovery, often within 24 hours
  • Minimal pain with immediate improvement in breathing
  • Non-invasive with no incisions required
  • Can be combined with other ENT procedures, such as balloon sinuplasty

4. QMR for Tonsillitis

QMR is also used for tonsillitis treatment through QMR Tonsillectomy.

Indications include:

  • Recurrent tonsillitis
  • Sleep disturbances such as snoring or mild to moderate sleep apnea
  • Chronic throat infections unresponsive to antibiotics
  • Sensation of blockage or a lump in the throat

QMR for tonsillitis works by using non-thermal frequencies to shrink tonsil tissue without traditional surgical incisions. It also promotes faster cell healing while reducing airway obstruction.

The procedure typically lasts 30–45 minutes under general anesthesia.

Benefits of QMR Tonsillectomy:

  • Non-invasive, without major incisions or open wounds
  • Immediate relief with improved breathing and sleep quality
  • Faster recovery: patients resume activities within 3–5 days
  • Minimal bleeding and pain
  • High success rate in patients with mild to moderate sleep disorders
