Mandaya Royal Puri Hospital Appointed as Indonesia’s CORI Robotic Knee Reference Center by Smith+Nephew

RS Mandaya Puri Ditunjuk Sebagai CORI Robotic Knee Reference Center di Indonesia oleh Smith+Nephew

Mandaya Royal Puri Hospital has been officially appointed by global medical device company Smith+Nephew as the first and only CORI Robotic Knee Reference Center in Indonesia.

CORI is an advanced robotic navigation technology designed to assist surgeons in performing knee joint replacement surgeries with greater precision. Using real-time 3D mapping, this robotic system allows knee implants to be tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy.

To mark the inauguration, Mandaya Royal Puri Hospital held an official ceremony accompanied by a health talk and talk show titled “Differences Between Conventional Knee Replacement Surgery and Robotic Navigation Surgery” on Saturday (August 9). The event was attended by the hospital’s team of Hip & Knee orthopedic subspecialists, including Dr. Paulus Ronald Hibono, Sp.OT(K) Hip & Knee, Dr. William Chandra, Sp.OT(K) Hip & Knee, Dr. Rahendra Pratama, Sp.OT(K) Hip & Knee, and Dr. Ardi Setiawan, Sp.OT(K) Hip & Knee.

Also present was a special guest speaker from Thailand, Associate Professor Pruk Chaiyakit, MD, an internationally renowned orthopedic surgeon.

Mandaya Royal Puri Hospital was deemed qualified to become a CORI Robotic Knee Reference Center for meeting key criteria, including world-class surgical and rehabilitation facilities, as well as a team of internationally certified Hip & Knee orthopedic subspecialists for robotic surgery procedures.

The expertise of Mandaya’s orthopedic team is reflected in Dr. Paulus’ participation in the CORI Robotic Summit in Germany and the CORI robotic workshop in Thailand, as well as Dr. William’s advanced knee surgery training at the Lyon School of Knee Surgery in France.

To date, Mandaya Royal Puri Hospital holds the record for performing the highest number of CORI robotic knee replacement surgeries in Indonesia, completing 100 robotic knee surgeries in just 10 months.

“Mandaya has successfully performed 100 robotic knee surgeries within 10 months and was the first to conduct partial knee replacement (UKA) with robotic assistance,” said Erwin Suyanto, Public Relations of Mandaya Hospital Group.

“Some patients not only walk again, but have even returned to high-impact sports such as tennis,” he added.

Introducing CORI Robotic Technology and OXINIUM Implants for Knee Surgery

The CORI Robotic Surgical System is an advanced navigation technology for partial (UKA/Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty) and total (TKR/Total Knee Replacement) knee joint replacement procedures. With this technology, surgeons can map the patient’s knee anatomy in real time without requiring a preoperative CT scan.

Proven through over 20 years of clinical use and adopted in more than 120 countries, the CORI knee robot is equipped with a smart surgical burr that enables surgeons to achieve higher precision when cutting and placing implants according to the patient’s unique anatomy. This results in more accurate procedures, faster recovery times, and better overall outcomes.

Furthermore, CORI is the only FDA-approved (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) knee surgery robot for revision knee surgery — a procedure to replace part or all of a worn-out knee implant with a new one.

The CORI system is compatible with Smith+Nephew’s premium knee implant, OXINIUM, which is renowned for its durability of up to 30 years. Made from zirconium metal that has undergone a special oxidation process, OXINIUM offers structural strength proven to be nine times stronger after the equivalent of 45 million steps — matching 30 years of use. Additionally, its surface remains 160 times smoother after 10 million impact cycles compared to standard knee implants, significantly reducing wear and postoperative discomfort.

Highly biocompatible, OXINIUM minimizes the risk of allergic reactions and is specifically designed to fit the anatomy of Asian patients.

With the combination of CORI’s advanced robotic technology and OXINIUM’s superior implant material, patients can enjoy a significantly improved quality of life after surgery.
